www.charlaineharris.com/Short Bio:Charlaine Harris was born November 25, 1951 in Tunica, Mississippi. Her early works consisted largely of poems about ghosts and teenage angst. During her time at Thode College she wrote plays and a few years later she began to write books. After publishing two stand-alone mysteries, Charlaine Harris began the 'Aurora Teagarden' books with real murders. It become a best novel 1990 and was nomination for the 'Agatha Award'. She wrote several books in the series before the mid-1990s. In 1996, she released the first of five in the 'Shakespeare' series, set in rural Arkansas. After 'Shakespeare', Charlaine Harris created 'The Southern Vampire' Mysteries series about a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse who works in a northern Louisiana bar. The first book in the series won the 'Anthony Award' for Best Paperback Mystery in 2001. Each book follows Sookie as she tries to solve mysteries involving vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures. October 2001 marked the debut of Harris's new series about a young woman named Harper Connelly, with the release of Grave Sight. Harper, after being struck by lightning, is able to locate the bodies of the dead clairvoyant.
Professionally, Harris is a member of the 'Mystery Writers of America' and the 'American Crime Writers League'.
She is married, the mother of three teenagers and now living in Magnolia, Arkansas. There she is the senior warden of St. James Episcopal Church.
Sookie Stackhouse has proven to be so popular that Alan Ball announced he would undertake the production of a new HBO series based upon 'The Southern Vampire' Mysteries. He also wrote and directed the pilot episode for the series named 'True Blood', which premiered on September 7, 2008 on HBO.
Review:Charlaine Harris is one of my favorite writers. She is more mature and not really for teens. I got hooked on her series about Sookie Stackhouse after a few chapters. Charlaines way of writing is really amazing and you can't stop reading once started. I also read the 'Harper Connelly' series and the 'Aurora Teagarden' series is on my bookshelf to be read next. But Sookie, Bill, Sam and especially Eric will stay my favorites - and I love her including 'The King'. I also watched the HBO series 'True Blood' - first I was very disappointed about the many changes Alan Ball did to the books ... but at the end I was as hooked to the TV-series as to the books - thx to Alexander Skarsgard, he is the most perfect viking vampire and sheriff of Area 5.
