Chapters 24-26
Neferet fights to keep herself under control because she wants to use darkness to kill Zoey. She easily manipulates the others into thinking Nxy has blessed them and the group that left chose another path, darkness. Lenobia questions Neferet but she tells them to go pray and rest. Neferet then takes to the sky, certain that she knows where Kalona will be waiting for her.
Neferet feels a coldness and ends up at a cemetery where she sees the white bull. The white bull questions her actions regarding Kalona and he offers her a gift for touching him willingly. The bull tells her she must sacrifice a human woman with ties to the earth before she can receive her gift. Neferet knows who she will choose and climbs on the bull’s back.
We are then in Linda’s (Zoey’s mother) point of view. She realizes that her husband came between she and Zoey and she’s trying to find Grandma Redbird who isn’t at home. Neferet
shows up....
Chapter 25
When Neferet finds Grandma Redbird is not at home, she settles for Linda. She binds Linda with darkness and then slits her throat. The bull drinks her blood.
In the otherworld, Nyx talks with Heath. She gives him a choice of 3 paths. She explains that Neferet has become immortal and that the white bull is creating a vessel, a golum-like creature. Nyx explains that she can insert Heath’s spirit into the golum’s body due to it’s weakness.Of course Heath chooses to help Zo, even though he will have lost his memories and will only be the essence of himself.
Chapter 26
Neferet speaks the words and calls her vessel into life. Aurox, the vessel, is beautiful and does not show that he has darkness in him. He is hers to control.
Zoey and Stark are talking and making out when he suddenly gets rough and bites. She sees something in his eyes. He instantly apologizes and mentions he hasn’t been sleeping well.
While sleeping Zoey sees Nxy talking to her mother and realizes her mother did truly love her. She wakes up crying at the loss of her mom.
