When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

United States

I've always liked this cover. It really encompasses the whole story. And it does so in a interesting way. A way that really draws you to the cover when shopping in a store. Also, I like the metallic effect it has when your looking at it in person.

German
(Translation: Chronicles of the underworld)

I'm not to sure I like this cover, which is a surprise because I always love the German ones. It reminds me of a Percy Jackson book, which is the total opposite of the Mortal Instruments.

Portuguese
(Translation: Raiders of Shadows)

Basically this is the same cover the US uses for the second Mortal Instruments book, only here it is being used as the first. All the things I said about the US cover above, apply here too.

Bulgarian
(Translation: Relics of Death)

I first need to start off by saying I love the translation. Maybe even more than City of Bones. Ehh this cover is okay, It has the same feel as the US cover. I'm not sure I like that Jace is being shown as a 'cartoon' instead of an actual picture.

Polish

Ohh, I don't know how I feel about this one. The Jace they have one the cover reminds me of a virtual person that you would find on those chat sites they have. It just looks a little weird to me.

UK

All I have to say is me likey. It's simple and I like it!

Italian

This cover is okay, not my favorite though.

Which of the covers was your favorites? Least favorite?

Which cover encompassed the story the best?

they are very different, but i seriously do not like the german cover....it is just that it resumes the book to a stupid fantasy book(no ofence) with things my sister( she is 5 ) would like wtf.I agree with Alovethatsnotsupposedtobe on the bulgarian and polish covers, Jace is made too real in the book to be represented as a drowing or a 3D character. meAngry the cover that i have seen first(UK) made me want to read the book.i think that the best covers from this book are the U.S. , portugeese , U.K. and italian. The Italian one has shown a lot of the story, but i like the ideea of Jace(I think it is Jace) trying to over ...not power her, but to over protect her, while he was atracted to her AND annoyed by simon. It also shows that he isn'like other characters from other books(mr. over protective good guy), but he has a part of him that has a bad side, that makes him more atractive  blushing1 .So the italiam is my favorite iamhyper  ibowdown  clappingguy
