Michelle Rowen
Reign Fall
Demon Princess, Book #3

Review brought to you by OBS staff member Dawn

Summary:

SPOILERS!!!!

Secrets, secrets and more secrets. It’s not easy juggling secrets.

Melinda and Rhys are dating. Neither of them know the truth about each other. The new girl, Clara, is a total mystery.

Rhys taunts Nikki about Michael as often as possible. He comes off like a snobby asshole but he really just wants her attention. She needs a book on the history of Shadows and he agrees to get it for a price.

Michael is having serious problems. After killing Jonas, he has some odd side effects…. Despite struggling with himself, he wants to tutor Nikki in regards to her Darkling powers. Nikki notices some of his side effects and decides she must speak to her father.

Nikki meets a strange young man who gives her a weird rock.

Lots of action and surprises.

Review:

The third installment in the series does not disappoint. It could be a stand-alone book; there’s so much background detail. I liked having the refresher.

Nikki has matured a great deal but in some ways she is still very childish. She takes pleasure in deliberately annoying her father. I can’t blame her for acting out, her entire life changed in an instant.

Poor Melinda. She got the shock of her life in this book. Her reactions are comical.

In Reign Fall you begin to feel the toll it’s taking on Nikki. It’s a heavy burden keeping secrets. She’s definitely feeling the pain of living 2 lives. She rarely sees Michael and her feelings for Rhys confuse her. At one point, Nikki’s mom over-hears Nikki and Rhys talking. She wants to know what’s going on and Nikki asks her to trust her for a little while longer. I hope Nikki can be honest with her mom soon. Nikki needs her mom – she’s going through difficult and serious issues and she should have her mom to help.

The plot is layered with multiple storylines going on. Eventually they all come together. Nikki ends up with information that she must act on-  As always she faces it with bravery. She knows what she has to do. She may have a chance to break the curse on the Shadows.

I see some huge choices ahead for Nikki. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
