OBS Staff member Tori brings us this week's R&R of 'Eastwick'
Season 1 Episode 4: ’FLEAS & CASSEROLES’
Tonight’s episode opens with the sudden appearance of JoAnna’s former fiancé, Morgan. Years before, Morgan left her standing at the altar in her Vera Chang dress. Sadly enough she couldn’t afford a Vera Wang she tells Penny. JoAnna is embarrassed to see Morgan and meet his fiancé who immediately insults her by picking poppy seed from JoAnna’s teeth. Penny consoles her and reminds her of her date with Will at the Eastwick Inn that next evening. Will says he will see her there at 7:30. Penny still wants to follow up on the story about Daryl but JoAnna manages to put her off.
Meanwhile Cat is frantic with worry and calls the sheriff as her children are missing and Raymond won’t answer his cell phone. She is calling all over town and talking with the sheriff when the back door opens and in walks the children and Ray with a puppy in tow. Which the oldest decides to name Tebow. A major argument ensues between Ray and Cat and the sheriff politely leaves. Ray threatens to take the children for good. Cat goes to Daryl with her problem and he insists that she use a lawyer friend of his from New York. She wants Daryl to fire Ray but Daryl says that is not such a good idea. Later at lunch with Daryl and the lawyer, Cat is finally convinced to fight. Roses die and thorns grow as her anger shows itself .
During the afternoon, Roxie is measuring Daryl for his sculpture and thinks she senses Jamie outside the window taking pictures. On closer inspection though all she sees is a squirrel. She voices her concerns over his living above her shop and her visions about him. Daryl tells her to check him out, after all he is her neighbor. When she gets back to the shop, Jamie is leaving and she proceeds to break into his apartment. She finds the book with the Celtic symbol on it, the same one she dreamed was on Jamie’s hip. Almost getting caught by Jamie returning, she hides the book under her top.
That evening the girls convene in Roxie’s kitchen for martini’s and magic. Joanna tells them the story of her betrayal by Morgan. Roxie tells them of the discovery of the book of magic. Joanna and Cat exclaim over the symbol saying they had seen it before. Joanna on the front porch of a house in the woods that belonged to a crazy lady, and Cat on a patient at the hospital, who is Bun. Laughing they decide to give Raymond a pox using a spell from Jamie’s book. Obviously they think it is a joke.
The next morning Roxie hears a commotion upstairs in Jamie’s apartment. She asks him what is wrong. He tells her the story of his life, that he was put up for adoption as a baby by his mother. Then he spent many years in foster homes and finally accepted a scholarship to attend school in England. He says he has been searching for his mother and discovered that they were both born in Eastwick and that she, “sort of “, left him the book.
At Cat’s house she awakens to find that Raymond has overslept and is late for work. They argue again. She sees a red rash on his neck and at first is horrified and then says, “Oh the puppy has fleas”, thinking this is the cause of the rash. (Right!!) Ray tells her to make herself useful and get him some juice, she proceeds to pour hers on his head and reminds him he and his lawyer have a meeting with her and hers later that evening.
Joanna is in her apartment when she hears a knock on the door. It is Morgan, begging to come and explain what happened when he stood her up at the altar. She lets him in, (her first mistake, and they share some wine, (her second mistake), when he begins to tell her that she looks like a goddess and that she glows to which she replies that she has been taking a “piloxing” class. He tells her she is beautiful and they proceed to ……meanwhile she stands up the sweet but dumb Will. When they are finished she tells Morgan she wants some honest answers and proceeds to entrance him into being completely honest. He says he stood her up because he knew he was settling, (the swine), she was cute but not hot, one boob was significantly larger than the other, she talked too much, and the sex wasn’t that good.
Cat and her attorney meet with Ray and are waiting for his attorney, Bob, who is his fishing Buddy and has 2 semesters of law school. Cat’s attorney proceeds to humiliate Ray and Bob finally asking Ray who he would call if one of the children were sick. He replies, “Cat, of course”.
Roxie is walking Bun around town explaining things to her since she has lost her memory. When they are inside Roxie’s shop, Bun picks up the newspaper and sees the magic book underneath it and is shocked.
Joanna goes to work that morning and has to bespell Will into believing that she really didn’t mean to stand him up the night before. She feels terrible and tells Penny all the horrible things Morgan said.
Later Roxie takes a casserole upstairs to Jamie, she tells him it is noodles not tuna. He opens wine for them and while he is putting the casserole in the oven, she puts the magic book under a shelving unit pushing it back with her foot. She asks Jamie about the book he is writing and he says he just finished a chapter about the Lennox Mansion.
Morgan shows up at the newspaper office telling Joanna that he broke it off with his fiancé and expected to continue with Joanna because the sex was so good. Joanna tells him that he is afraid of commitment, that he has miniscule man berries and they are smurf sized. He leaves with Joanna continuing to dress him down. She feels liberated. But Will has heard the whole thing, including the part about having sex three times, and he tells her he won’t be coming to dinner tonight or ever.
When Cat comes home from work, Ray is sitting at the table scratching his neck. She puts cream on it and tells him she fired her lawyer and that maybe they should try birdnesting, which is where the children stay in the home and the parents take turns living there. She goes to Joanna’s for the week.
Bun and Roxie are sitting on the bench outside the shop when Jamie drives up and Bun says, “Why I recognize him, I used to hold him when he was a baby”.
In the final scene, there is a knock on Jamie’s door. It is Penny! She comes in and says she wants more information on Daryl and then Jamie says “later”, and begins kissing her.
Great episode. I really love Roxie’s kitchen/family room. So what is up with Jamie and Penny?
Is Jamie Daryl’s son with Bun? Will Cat find a love interest? Will Joanna get Will back?
