Summary:Tuesday Morning…
Luce officially survived her day at Sword & Cross. She wakes up in the early morning, remembering how Tuesdays at home were meant for pancakes…but not in this prison. She suddenly realizes why she subconsciously woke up so early; she has detention in the cemetery at dawn. (Molly picked a fight with her after she dumped her tray of food on her). She arrives late because she didn’t even know where the group was meeting, she hears voices down in the center, and makes her down. She is once again embarrassed by ‘The Albatross’, but not as badly as she is when Daniel caught her staring at him, wondering about how looks while sleeping, oops.
Ready to begin work, the group starts to pair off for their detention punishments. Luce being new has no idea what this in-tells and Cam volunteers to help her, which once again Luce finds herself flushed with embarrassment in front of everyone. Arriane steps in and decides to claim Luce without anyone's permission. Their task consists of cleaning of the Gothic angel statues in the cemetery, which are people's graves. Luce notices that Molly and Daniel are partnered up and this sparks some feelings and she once again questions Arriane. Then after making it a whole day, Arraine once again broaches the subject of what Luce did to land herself in the prison known as Sword & Cross. She is feeling a connection with Arriane, and wants badly to open up about her past and finally get some of the weight of her shoulders...she gives her the short somewhat edited version of the events that night, which for a brief moment Arriane shows some compassion, but turns back into her mimicking self.
Arriane took off to find Roland, leaving Luce alone and feeling a bit stupid for telling her dark secrets. Her eyes wonder off to Daniel again, working hard at cleaning his angel off, then Molly comes to disrupt her musings. She is warned that it would be best to stay away from Daniel, that it's a very bad idea...implying her possession over him. Daniel hearing his name, come over to Luce as Molly makes a quick escape. Daniel confronts her about what Molly told her, in a way that is demanding but not in his repulsed manner he usually has for Luce, he is possibly flirting with her. He challenges her to run, to stay away from him like Molly suggested...he is so close to her now, bodies just inches apart, when she backed into the statue and it fell...
Daniel instinctively wrapped Luce up, and dropped them to the ground where they would be in the exact spot of the angels curves. As they crouched together beneath the angel statue, inches apart, mouths so close, Daniel looses his facade in her eyes...until Cam comes to the rescue and pulls Luce out of the wreckage, ruining the moment...
Questions for consideration:
1. What do you think is up with Cam, why is he so interested? And why is Arriane so interested, so interested that it seems a bit of obsessive?
2. Why would Molly warn Luce, is it because Molly likes Luce or because she might know something? What do you think at this point Molly's part is in the story?
3. I find it romantic, when Daniel slips up in this story like in this chapter when he sees her cracking her knuckles -"I hate it when you do that." - implying he does know her, and he does pay attention. Do you find this sweet and romantic?
4. Does the angel falling on top of them signify anything? At least maybe just for you, the reader?
