Chapter 2 "Fit to be Tied"  by chris

Characters:
Luce
Cam
Arriane
Daniel
Molly
Penn

Places:
Classroom
Lunch Hall
Girl's bathroom

Memorable Quotes:

1. "This is my room number. Come by anytime" - Cam page 45
2. "Like you wouldn't sink your teeth into him?" - Arraine page 54
3. If the sight of you hadn't just ruined my appetite, I'd make you buy my another lunch" - Molly page53
4. "I'm sure gossip spreads like the plague around here." - Luce page 57

Summary:

We find Luce in her first class observing her bleak surroundings, many things are outdated and run down. Her own desk is littered with graffiti, she tries to make herself as comfortable as possible. She has class with Arriane, Cam, and Gabbe. Cam strikes up a conversation with her, and she can't help but notice that he is being overly nice. Luce isn't too familiar with bad boys and them hitting on her, so when he offers his room number and key to it, she is taken back, not knowing what to make of it. Luce sits nervously as the rest of the class files in getting ready to start the period, she is anxious to see if Daniel is in her class. She notices that Cam keeps stealing glances at her, and she is feeling a little overwhelmed by her new found attraction to two different males, on the first day!

Luce is disappointed to find out that her classes are held in the same classroom, so she is held up in the small dingy classroom till lunch. Not only is this news horrible, but her class syllabus states that she will take every third period, huge reading load, and also has to complete makeup assignments since the school year already started. Luce finally makes it to lunch with Arriane, when we discover Luce is a vegetation, and meets Sword & Cross's bully. She was pushed and tried to regain her stance by grabbing on to the closest thing to her, which happens to be Molly's tray. She ruined Molly's lunch, and pissed her off. Arriane tries to stand up for Luce, but Molly pushes her to the edge, and Arriane punches her in the face. After her stunt, Arriane was shocked by her wristband. Apparently she is shocked a lot, so it's not such a big deal but it definitely freaks Luce out. Randy shows up and clams the situation down and gives all three detention in the cemetery early that next morning.

Luce notices that Daniel had witnessed the whole embarrassing scene, she rushes for fresh air so she wouldn't cry in front of these strangers. Afterward, she dips into the bathroom to somehow get Molly's lunch off of her. While cleaning up, she meets Pennyweather Van Syckle-Lockwood, nicknamed Penn. Luce realizes that this girl is actually normal and seems pretty nice, but Penn explains that the only reason why she is attends Sword & Cross is because her father was the groundskeeper, but he had passed away. Luce learns that Penn is an odd man out, in a school of weirdos, but that Penn knows all the secrets of Sword & Cross and it's students....and she is wondering about one student in particular...

Questions for consideration:

1. What do you think about Cam? Does he like Luce, or is this some kind of new-kid trickery? What about Daniel?
2. Does Sword & Cross seem just like any other high school, with bullies, gossip, crushes, cliques? Any differences?
3. We meet Penn in this chapter, what do you think about her? Is she really that nice, or should Luce not trust her so quickly?
4. Is Luce's need for normalcy and friendship out way her morals and values?

I think Cam likes Luce. I'm not too sure about Daniel. I think he wants to hate Luce, but he can't.

2. Does Sword & Cross seem just like any other high school, with bullies, gossip, crushes, cliques? Any differences?
It seems a bit more extreme than other high schools. I think the kids in this high school have more problems than a normal high school.

3. We meet Penn in this chapter, what do you think about her? Is she really that nice, or should Luce not trust her so quickly?
I hope she's really that nice, and I think she is. Luce needs a good friend, and I think Penn could be it.

4. Is Luce's need for normalcy and friendship out way her morals and values?
I don't think so.

Right off I liked Cam, typical me would like the guy that the story isn't supposed to be about....lol but I did like Daniel, except for his rude ass behavior  iamShocked

2. Does Sword & Cross seem just like any other high school, with bullies, gossip, crushes, cliques? Any differences?
YES! Even for a prison like reform boarding school, it has it's popularity contest, and of course people that like to make others lives a living hell....lol

3. We meet Penn in this chapter, what do you think about her? Is she really that nice, or should Luce not trust her so quickly?
AT first I didn't buy her, I thought she wasn't as nice as she seems..at a place like S&C you gotta have your guard up...but Penn later is the most trustworthy IMO

4. Is Luce's need for normalcy and friendship out way her morals and values?WEll maybe to befriend the weirdo that is Arriane right at the beginning, says she might just want to be accepted by someone...even if they are crazy!!
