This week's episode started off at a wedding. Right before the ceremony we were being shown the wedding through the camera man's viewer. We saw the bride talking to her future mother-in-law and the groom with his bachelor buddies. The groom was shown to be using an inhaler under the misapprehension that he was nervous. This was the first clue to all Fringe-viewers that something was going to happen. We went back into main hall where the ceremony was to take place. The grandmother of the groom was sitting in her chair and she noticed a man in the back of the room and she started walking toward him, pointing and repeating, "It is him". She goes down along with half of the room appearing to suffocate.
Peter arrives on the scene with Walter in the driver's seat, and after a crash landing they stroll to the crime scene talking about Walter's wedding. Walter wonders aloud if 'she' will call her 'Dad'. Peter asks who and Walter says, 'Agent Dunham'. Peter laughs this off (a little too enthusiastically if I do say so). The trio investigates the crime scene and Walter remarks that these people appeared to suffocate in a room full of air. Also, Olivia states that the grandmother was a Holocaust survivor and the victims were direct blood decedents of her. Peter reasons that maybe those victims ate or drank something that could have caused this.
Olivia and Peter hear something in another room and open the door to find the groom gasping for breath holding his inhaler. He sadly suffocates as well.
Back in the lab, Walter is performing an autopsy and discovers blue blood coming from the victim, indicating that he was suffocated from the inside out because of something bonding with the hemoglobin in the blood .
At the scene, Olivia questions the daughter in-law of the grandmother and tells her that the grandmother was freaking out over a strange man before the incident. Olivia asks the woman to identify the man on the wedding video. Peter also determines that one of the supposed 'lavender' candles was 'cinnamon' and they may have found out how the toxin was delivered.
Walter recognizes the method behind the killings and narrows it down to Nazi research, only killing a select group of people, using the wedding as an experiment. He tells Olivia that this will happen again.
In a cafe, the man who was suspect at the wedding orders a very hot tea, he pours in a substance which smells like cinnamon. The Fringe team arrives at the scene after many of the people are dead. Walter determines that this time only people were brown eyes were killed. The murderer was targeting certain physical and genetic traits. While leaving the crime scene we scan the crowd and the killer asks a police officer if Walter is 'Bischoff' and remarks that he looks exactly like his father.
At the lab, Walter has a show-and-tell about the formation of the molecule in the toxin and he shows the signature in the carbon atoms. Peter says the signature looks like a seahorse and Walter is stunned and realizes that someone is using his father's signature in this toxin. He goes to look for his father's German books which contains his spy secrets of the Nazi research during the Holocaust. Peter regretfully informs Walter that he sold those books for money when Walter was in St. Clares.
Peter and Olivia ge to Peter's bookstore contact to try and find the books that he sold. Peter confides to Olivia that he sold the books because they were Walter's most prized possessions instead of just for money. The find the person who bought the books and determine that he used the pages from the books to make Nazi paintings. And he has been the only person to see the writing in them. Peter gets them back and brings the artwork to Walter in the lab. Walter is still furious with Peter. But Peter determines that the killer is planning to create the 'Master Race' eventually targeting more than one gene.
The killer arrives on another scene with a homeless man and his dog. He says he is testing the dispersion rate of his experiment and invites the man to watch. The gas explodes and leaves the homeless man dead while the killer walks away (the dog is fine too).
Olivia arrives in the lab with a list of people who have purchased sodium chromate which is a sister compound of chromium trioxide which is a main, but regulated ingredient of the toxin. They arrive at an address of the killer. At the house he is creating an ID badge for something when he hears the FBI in his house. Olivia, Peter, and Walter travel to the basement to discover the killer's lab. Peter sees Walter's sweater on the desk and Walter begins to suffocate. They take him out and give him oxygen until he recovers.
While investigating the basement, a badge is discovered and Peter recognizes the logo as a world summit conference and where they believe the killer will strike next. The killer is seen at this event with candles that are to be placed under heatings tray for the food.
Back at the house, Walter investigates the basement and takes what appears to be a gas gun. At the conference, Olivia, Peter, and other agents scour the floor for the killer and the device he is using to give off the toxin. At the lab, Astrid prepares to take Walter home but finds him preparing what appears to be an antidote to the toxin. Back at the conference, Peter finds the candles that are to be used when they hear coughing from the middle of the floor. They appear at the side of the killer who is suffocating while pointing and calling Walter a traitor. Walter is seen holding the gad gun after apparently creating a toxin just for the killer.
Agent Broyles approaches Walter and is about to read him his rights when Walter stops him and states that he would do anything to protect his family. Agent Broyles leaves without another word.
Later that night, Peter brings Walter the remains of his books. He asks Walter how the man got the idea for the toxin if he never saw the books and Walter says that somethings will never have an explanation. After Peter leaves, we see a photo in the box showing what looks like a younger Walter with the killer in a lab coat standing behind him.
This was a really cool episode. I was enthralled by the idea of this toxin only targeting certain groups. It was scary and fascinating at the same time. I also wondered what other things Walter was hiding in regards to Nazi experiments and why the killer in the photo looked exactly like the present killer. This could have indicated that he resembled his father greatly, or this man came from that dimension or this man was an 'Observer' type himself. We shall see! Tune in next week!!
