Chapter 1

Crossroads, Oklahoma was so small it was barely on the map, but to Aden Stone it was definitely hell on earth. After going out to explore the town Aden found himself in a graveyard; the one place he didn’t want to be. He’d left the D and M Ranch, a halfway house for wayward teens, with IPod on and now he was in a lot of trouble.
The voices in Aden’s head all began to lecture him about this mistake. Julian’s ability to raise the dead made Aden always aware of the graveyards in any town he lived, but the music had distracted him. The tombstone began to rattle and the corpse rose from the dead in need of flesh. He knew he would since Elijah had already predicted his death on a deserted street with a knife in his heart, but that did not make the battle any easier. The only reason he had moved to the D and M Ranch was because of the visions, the ones where he was laughing and kissing a beautiful dark haired girl, and he wanted to know her…even if it meant his life.
As he began to clean up the corpses remains, knowing the salvia would cause him agony later. It was neither the souls fault nor Aden’s that he had been born with the four of them trapped inside his head, but it was because of that that Aden could never live a normal life. With the ability to rise the dead, predict the future, travel through time, and posses another’s body Aden was all too familiar with the idea that he was a freak. More corpses began to rise and Aden went about dispatching them and as he slay another none of his companions had smart ass comments, a feat in itself.
Aden’s eyes caught a young girl strolling in front of the cemetery and just before she passed completely their eyes met and everything in the world cease to exist. Then, everything exploded as a sharp wind blew him off his feet and onto his butt. The girl had also fallen and with a yelp she got up and ran away, a feeling he experienced as well, and then the voices returned.
The souls had been plunged into a black hole of nothingness and every corpse around him had ceased to live. Afraid that the bodies might rise again Aden finished decapitation them and instead of cleaning up he ran after the girl. Was she the reason for the peace and silence he’d experienced? He had to know. He spotted the girl a block from the cemetery and the strong wind jolted him again and silence fell around him. She was responsible, but how? He cleaned himself up, switched his dirty shirt out, and made to follow the girl. How would she react when she saw him? He didn’t know but for the first time in his life he was completely on his own, no matter what happened.

Caleb: I wouldn’t exactly call this fighting, Caleb replied. More like being spanked like a girl.
Eve: Hey! I take exception to that. (Page 13)
Aden: For the first time in his life, he was truly on his own. If he messed up, he’d have no one but himself to blame. (Page 25)
