OBS Staff member Tori has brought us this week's R&R of 'Medium'
The episode opens with a tall bearded man questioning a very ill man in a hospital bed. He is trying to get the man to admit to killing women. The dying man says no and dies. Flash to Allison waking in her bed saying Admit it”.
Allison and Ariel are practicing her therapy flash cards. On one of the cards she keeps seeing a symbol different from what is actually there. Allison can't find a permission slip she needs for Marie's teacher so she hand writes one. When Allison visits her cognitive therapist, the therapist tells her she has a form of expressive aphasia and Allison just needs to be more disciplined and practice. While attending the physical therapy class, Allison is helped by a man with a cane, Neal Greybridge, played by the great Fisher Stevens. He explains that he was mugged and shot and left to die 11 years ago.
Lee calls Allison about a murder and that she needs to view the body. (That ringtone needs to go). When Allison sees the body, she sees the symbol on it's forehead.
Meanwhile Joe is on a job interview with a total jerk that eats chips and takes emails while talking with Joe. As a discouraged Joe leaves the office building he gets a call from Drew who tells him the guy loved him and he is hired.
Allison is driving and begins to see symbols everywhere, on building signs, on stop signs, on street signs. They lead her to a bookstore where
Lance Pauling is having a book signing. He has written three books about the suspected serial killer, John David Boatner. Allison confronts Pauling, asking him about the symbol and Boatner. He tells her that the symbol is the Libra symbol and that Boatner is the Libra killer. She tells him he is lying and that the Libra slayer is back.
Arriving back at the office she argues with Lee and Devalos that the Libra killer is back. They tell her that the new victim was killed by a left handed killer and that the Libra slayer was right handed and that it has been years since there were any killings resembling the Libra killer. When Allison gets home that evening Joe shows her that she wrote the note to Marie’s teacher in symbols! That night Allison dreams of the mugging of Neal Greybridge. She gets a good look at the mugger.
Joe's first day and he asks about staff meetings and agendas and is told don't worry about it, just wait till Keith asks you to do something.
Meanwhile Allison goes to see Greybridge at therapy and asks him if he knows who she is. He replies that she is a professional dreamer. She tells him she has been dreaming about his mugging and the he needs to come to the police station for a voice line up. He goes and identifies the suspect.
Alison dreams of another girl with the Libra symbol on her forehead.
She sees the killer putting a note beside the bed. The next day tells her that he has had the note translated from the first killing. The names of both the victims are in the note.
Joe makes a presentation to his boss who says he can't get too excited over it and that he is excellent on his own without any help from anyone. He says Joe's wiring concept is interesting though and then he proceeds to email the commercial aeronautics division that he wants to trade Joe to them.
Allison is in her office going over files for the murders when Lee tells her that Greybridge never showed for the meeting with the DA to prepare for the mugging trial. She says she will try to get in touch with him. She dreams again that night of the killer watching a woman through the window of her apartment. The radio is making a news announcement about President Bill Clinton so we know this is in the past. Allison sees someone take a note with symbols on it out of the glove compartment and get out of the car. It is Neal Greybridge. He gets mugged! It is the night 11 years ago of his mugging. She calls Lee and tells him about her dream. He calls her from Drawbridge's apartment and tells her that it's empty and that to save the next victim and find the killer they need to decipher the note which will take at least 12 hours.
Switch to Joe telling his boss he doesn't want a transfer and that Keith needs him to review things and to help the company. He also tells him to check his work that he corrected it.
Allison dreams again that the note she wrote to Marie's teacher is a key code. She gives the code to Lee who captures Greybridge. Greybridge wants to talk to Allison. He is so arrogant and asks her what she sees? She replies that he is a cowardly murderer and what a waste.
Not my favorite episode. Great actors though with Fisher Stevens and Lance Pauling, who we previously saw on Saving Amy. There seemed to be a few discrepancies in the dream sequences. The episodes with the girls are really great as both Ariel and Bridgette are so entertaining.
So when is Allison going to get a new car? And when is she going to stop wearing those man pajamas? Why did Ariel cut her hair?
