For this month’s edition of OBS ‘Must-See’ List – we are covering Survival movies!! Movies about events that cause the human race, or just one person to fight for their life…whether is from the government or an apocalyptic event. OBS Staff member Caro, has complied a few movies and a TV show, that are all about our theme of “survival” and that she thinks everyone should check out.
Children of Men – (2006) by Caro
Director: Alfonso Cuarón. Genre: Dystopian Sci-fi. Cast: Clive Owen (Theo Faron), Julianne Moore (Julian Taylor), Michael Caine (Jasper Palmer), Claire-Hope Ashitey (Kee), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Luke), Pam Ferris (Miriam), Danny Huston (Nigel).
Why is it a must see? I watched this movie because of Alfonso Cuarón and Clive Owen not knowing what to expect. But at the start of it, it instantly hooks you up knowing that the last youngest person has died making you wonder what happened. As the story develops you are interested in knowing how everything is going to end; if Theo will survive and if Kee will have her baby. The characters trap you in their adventures, just like the shot sequences and locations. It’s one of those stories that make you think about the future world and yourself.
Battle Royale – (2000) by Caro
Director: Kinji Fukasaku. Genre: Dystopian. Cast: Tatsuya Fujiwara (Shuya Nanahara), Taro Yamamoto (Shogo Kawada), Aki Maeda (Noriko Nakagawa), Takeshi Kitano (Kitano), Kou Shibasaki (Mitsuko Souma), Masanobu Ando (Kazuo Kiriyama), Chiaki Kuriyama (Takako Chigusa).
Why is it a must see? This is a must see and must read . Its novel was made into a manga and movie by the same name. When I first found out about this I read a review on a magazine, it caught my interest immediately. You had this school group taken to a place there was no escape from, they suddenly awake with collars on their necks that could explode in any minute and the worse thing of all was that you couldn’t trust anyone. I liked the plot, the graphics were amazing and the suspense to know who would be the last one standing had you on the edge.
Dark Angel (2000) by Caro
Genre: Biopunk/Cyberpunk Sci-Fi. Created by: James Cameron and Charles H. Eglee. Cast: Jessica Alba (Max), Michael Weatherly (Logan Cale), Alimi Ballard (Herbal Thought), Jennifer Blanc (Kendra Maibaum), Richard Gunn (Sketchy), J. C. MacKenzie (Normal), Valarie Rae Miller (Original Cindy), Jensen Ackles (Alec), Martin Cummins (Ames White), Kevin Durand (Joshua), Ashley Scott (Asha Barlow), John Savage (Colonel Donald Lydecker).
Why is it a must see? This has been one of my favorite TV shows of all time. And I still can’t believe that it got canceled. The characters were likable; one was always waiting for the moment in which Max and Logan would appear in the same scene. Max’s quest to find the other X-5s had something new for every character and when she found Alec I’m sure it was the best moment for some fans Yes, then Max couldn’t touch Logan, but that was the good thing about their crazy love ride, every Romeo and Juliet had to had a disadvantage, otherwise it wouldn’t be a good post-apocalyptic romance. It had a bit of everything that’s why it made it so good.
Have you seen these movies listed above? If so, what did you think? Do you have any must-see movies about survivial?
