Never Ceese by Sue Dent Chapter 11 by Krystal
Richard, out searching for fresh blood, stumbles across the body of a dead goat and follows the scent. Not long after, a gunshot rings out and Richard proceeds cautiously. He approaches cautiously and finds a wolf lying on the ground. Assuming it must be Ceese, he now recalls the sound of his front door closing after the conversation with Mama about silver bullets. Trying to examine the wound, the dying wolf bites at his hand. Annoyed, Richard says "fine die then", but Ceese turns up informing that the wolf doesn’t understand him.
Richard asks if Long Tail, the wolf, is dying. Ceese realizes that Richard is hungry and probably wants the poor animal’s blood. Richard says that Long Tail might make it, but Ceese says that the pack would kill him anyway.
After some banter, Richard suggests that Ceese return with Long Tail to the pack, but she says that Zade would never allow it. Confused, Richard asks who Zade is and Ceese clarifies that he leads the pack. Ceese decides that it’s best to put Long Tail out of his misery and tells Richard to save what’s left for her while she goes to warn the others about Peter.
When Ceese returns she notices Richard looking at his watch and asks what it is. Richard explains that it’s like a clock and Ceese asks why he doesn’t just use the stars. Richard retorts that he doesn’t know how to, but offers to show Ceese how the watch works. In return, Ceese shows Richard how to read the stars and mentions her father showed her how.
Before leaving, Richard buries Long Tail explaining that he’s witness people being cursed from eating meat a vampire has fed on. When Ceese asks why he allowed her to eat after him, Richard explains that a soul has to be in good standing to be cursed. Ceese mentions that she wants her soul back and Richard says that she could have it, if she went to hell to get it. Misunderstanding, Ceese gets angry and runs off.
As Richard gets ready to leave, Zade approaches and asks where Ceese went. Richard says he doesn’t know or care, but Zade says he does. Angry, Richard runs off toward the castle trying to outrun the daybreak.
