Never Ceese by Sue Dent
Chapter 20 by Angela, Krystal, Rose

Rodney and Kyle stand at the exit of the concourse waiting for Richard and Ceese to deplane. As they wait Kyle expresses his concern that Cassie may find out Rodney has been secretly intercepting her emails and routing them to Dr. Henderson. Rodney reassures Kyle that he was careful and covered his tracks.

When Richard and Ceese finally exit the plane, Richard notices two young men holding a sign marked Cassie Felt and is immediately suspicious that Cassie herself didn’t come to meet them. Richard respecting Ceese’s ability to sense things about others, questions her about the boys, but she says nothing and they continue toward Rodney and Kyle to ask them why Cassie did not come.

Rodney lies, saying Cassie was unable to come because her car broke down and she had hoped that Richard would trust him. After a short pause, Richard agrees and they head toward the baggage claim with Rodney and Kyle leading the way. Kyle nudges Rodney and asks what’s up with them, indicating towards Ceese and commenting on her eyes. Rodney tells Kyle that she’s a werewolf, freaking him out, but then says that he believes it as much as he believes in the Easter Bunny or Richard being a vampire.

As they wait for their bags Richard stands by Ceese holding his hands over her ears as the luggage carousel horn sounds off. Meanwhile by the rental car, Rodney listens to an agent’s spiel about insurance and damages before turning to Josh and asking him a question. Richard observed the two boys and asks Kyle who Josh is and if they had done something wrong. Not able to resist a dig, Kyle mentions that Josh never does anything right. Unable to wait for the argument to be over, Richard approaches Rodney and Josh. Turns out, Rodney was expecting ‘Cassie’ to leave some cash for him in the car, but Josh denies there was any there. All of a sudden Ceese blurts out that the money is in Josh’s pocket and he’s going to buy ‘weed’ with it.

Kyle leans toward Rodney and whispers something about Ceese reading the minds of others, but Rodney quips back with the fact that she could probably tell from just looking at Josh. Angry, Josh pokes a little too much and Ceese and her temper flares, pinning him to the ground. Rodney tells Josh to apologize to her, which he does, but only after she leans in close to his neck.

In the meantime, two policemen have seen the argument and head over to the group. Annoyed with this delay, Richard approaches the cops and using his hypnosis, informs the police that everything was fine. Heading back to the boys, Richard suggests that they leave quickly before anything else happens.

Questions for consideration

Why do you think Richard agreed to go with the boys if he was suspicious?

Never Ceese by Sue Dent
Chapter 21 by Angela, Krystal, Rose

Back in England, Marissa checks Richard’s email as he had instructed her to and sure enough there was a new email from Cassie asking if Richard and Ceese had changed their mind about coming to New York. Concerned that Cassie never received Richard’s email, Marissa resends the confirmation email and signs off, hearing someone call for her in the other room. The stranger had arrived not long after Richard and Ceese had left for New York. At first Marissa resisted his requests, but now he was a permanent fixture at the house until Richard’s return and she was to tell no one of his visit.

Meanwhile in New York, Cassie retrieves the email and reads it for the first time. Looking at the date and time she realizes why she never saw it before, Rodney had obviously deleted it when he was 'downloading that patch'. Determined to get to the airport Cassie looks for her keys, but cannot find them. Giving up she grabs her cell, calls a cab and patiently waits outside.

At the airport, everyone gets in the car and Josh grabs a CD and inserts it into the player. Ceese’s reaction to the music was not pleasant and Richard jump forwards and ejects the CD that’s blaring the loud music. Richard warns them not to put anything else on if they value their lives. Josh proceeds to leave the airport and all the while Rodney is paying close attention to his driving. He so focused in fact, that he doesn't realize until its too late that they are not headed to Dr. Henderson’s. All of a sudden, Josh slams on the breaks, reaches under his jacket and pulls out a gun and orders Rodney to get out of the car. When Rodney protests and says Josh wouldn't shoot him, Josh rebuts that he probably won't, but he won't hesitate to shoot Richard and Ceese; informing them of the silver bullets. Putting the pieces together Rodney asks if Henderson put him up to this. Looking in the rear view mirror Rodney notices that he’s unable to see Richard’s reflection, but before he can say anything about this Josh orders him out of the car once again.

Pushing the button to unlock all the doors, Rodney takes this opportunity, to grab the gun from Josh and yells for everyone to run. As everyone is dispersing from the car, a gunshot goes off and Richard pulls Ceese to the ground. Ceese turns toward Richard to tell him its safe and sees his fangs heading right for her neck. Grabbing for her cross she eyes it lying on the ground nearby, but Richard blocks the path.

Needing a way to distract him, she blurts out the word ‘God’ while lunging forward to grab her cross and forces it toward him. Within minutes Richard is himself again and apologizes to Ceese for what he had done, explaining he needs blood. Ceese searches the shadows and notices something and leaves only to return with a mouse for Richard. As they sit feeding, Richard asks how Ceese is able to forgive him so easily when he was about to feed on her. After some conversation about his faith and Penny, Richard changes the subject and suggests that they get a move on. When Ceese mentions that Rodney will help them, Richard tries to reject this idea but after one look at Ceese he has no choice but to give in.

In the meantime, Rodney has gotten control of the gun and empties it. He confronts Josh about what he has done and all Josh says is that the gun was not suppose to be loaded. Knowing Josh is a drug addict, Rodney asks if he’s been using again and Josh admits that Henderson gave him some cocaine. As Kyle and Josh get in another fight, Rodney learns that Josh wasn’t the only one who was propositioned to betray his friends. More arguing ensues about the possibility that Richard and Ceese will go to the police, but Rodney tells them they won’t because just as the email stated, they are a werewolf and a vampire and can't afford being noticed. Ordering Kyle and Josh to take the car back to the rental agency Rodney hands over the Professor Henderson’s money for the bullet hole in the roof and heads off to find the two wandering souls.

Why do you think Ceese forgives Richard so easily?

Why do you think Rodney is willing to help Richard and Ceese?

Chapter 21

Why do you think Ceese forgives Richard so easily?

Maybe she views him as a mentor or a father figure.

Why do you think Rodney is willing to help Richard and Ceese?

He might feel sorry for them or is intrigued by them.

Why do you think Richard agreed to go with the boys if he was suspicious?
I think he really didn't have a choice... he was hungry and in need and he couldn't very well go off hunting and leave Ceese alone. So it was trust them of be screwed kinda.

What do you think about Rodney not believing what Richard and Ceese are?
I think it's natural, but at the sight of them I was surprised he didn't change his mind right away.

What are your favorite quotes from this chapter?
I'm really gonna have to do quotes when I dun have class at 8am the next morning.... i'll post em later.

Who do you think is occupying Richard's house in his absence and why would Marissa let them stay?
Honestly, I had no idea... I also had no idea why Marissa would let some stranger move in and not tell Richard. She's never lied to Richard or kept something from him so whoever it is must be important.

Why do you think Ceese forgives Richard so easily?
I think they have a bond that goes deeper than the OH YOU TRIED TO EAT ME level.

Why do you think Rodney is willing to help Richard and Ceese?
He was either full of guilt and that's why he did it or he just is so amazed they are real that he has to find them out of curiosity and for Cassie's sake... well his sake for what Cassie might do to him.

What is your favorite quotes from this Chapter?
Again i'll post these later.
