True Blood
Season 4
Episode 12: And When I Die

Jesus and Lafayette are outside having breakfast and Jesus apologizes for pushing Lafayette into the magic to soon.  He tells Lafayette that he is right and the magic is too powerful for them and if he wants to live a magic free life from here on out he is fine with it.  Lafayette isn’t responding to anything he says and just looks at him.  Jesus asks if he’s alright and Lafayette says yes.  Jesus gives him a kiss goodbye and Lafayette stabs him in the hand with his fork.

Sookie is making two cups of coffee and drops a spoon.  When she goes to retrieve it she sees her Gran dead on the floor.  Then, Tara walks in and Sookie gives her the other cup of coffee.  Sookie asks her if she thinks Gran is in Heaven.  Tara tells her that she’s an atheist, but if there is a Heaven then her Gran is surely there.  Sookie tells her that she can’t help, but feel like her Gran is there, but isn’t sure if it’s just some residual weirdness from everything that’s been going on.

Sam is standing over Tommy’s grave and Maxine walks up with flowers.  She says that Tommy was devious, but had a good heart.  She goes on to tell him that Tommy said Sam shooting him was the best thing that ever happened to him because it brought him to Maxine and the Lord.  Maxine thanks Sam for inviting her and tells him that she’ll  bring a pork rind casserole over later.  She tells him that about Tommy stealing some of her things and Sam tells her that he never was taught how to love without being hurt.  Maxine says that Sam must not have been taught either, but we all make the best of what they have.  She tells Sam to call her mom from now on because they are all the family they have left.  Maxine walks away at the same time Luna and Emma arrive.  They come and stand by him.

Jason pulls up to Hoyt’s worksite and tries to talk himself into believing he’s a good person, but it doesn’t really work.  He goes and tells Hoyt that he had sex with Jessica.  At first Hoyt laughs until he realizes that Jason is being serious.  He punches Jason and tells him that his dick is more important than anything.  He goes on saying they had a code and Jason broke it.  He continues to punch and kick Jason and tells him that what he and Jessica had is real and he will never have that with anybody because there is something missing in him.  Hoyt storms off leaving Jason lying on the ground bleeding.

Marnie has tied Jesus up to a chair and his hand is bleeding.  Jesus tells Lafayette that he must fight Marnie.  Marnie responds that Lafayette may be younger, but he isn’t more powerful than her.  She tells him that Lafayette’s magic is potent and clumsy, but potent.  She is angry and Jesus for taking Antonia from her and calls him a traitor.  Jesus tells her that Antonia didn’t want to be in her because she knew Marnie wasn’t fighting a righteous war.  He tells her that she only wanted possession because she was lonely.  Marnie threatens to cut out Lafayette’s eye saying she won’t feel it, but he will.  Jesus begs her not to hurt Lafayette and that he will do anything.  She tells him that he wants his magic that was passed to him in his blood and that she wants all of it.

Sookie goes into Merlotte’s and finds Arlene and Terry dressed as zombies, the new vampires as Arlene puts it.  It’s Halloween.  Sookie asks if Sam is around and she reads Arlene’s thoughts which say that nobody has told her yet.

Sookie goes into  Sam’s office and gives him her condolences.  He tells her that nobody really knew about it because Tommy didn’t have many friends.  She tells him that it’s been rough since Sam fired her, but she would have been there for him.  He tells her that he didn’t fire her that she just didn’t show up for shifts.  She sticks by her guns that she was fired and then it dawns on him that Tommy fired her when he was being Sam.  He tells her to let bygones be bygones and she can have her job back if she can start now.  She asks for a new uniform, but he tells her nobody is wearing a uniform tonight and hands her bunny years.  She tells him that she will get him for this.  To which he responds that nobody likes an angry bunny.

Jesus begs Marnie to let Lafayette go that he has a life and people that love him.  She tells him that if he hadn’t betrayed her that she’d still be alive and that Lafayette is the only host she has.  Jesus tells her that he would give her what’s inside him if he knew how, but he doesn’t.  She looks and sees he’s afraid and he tells her that he is and that she should be to because what’s inside him is dark.  She says that she will fight dark with dark.  He asks her who she’s fighting.  She cuts Lafayette’s chest and tells Jesus that if he doesn’t give her what she wants she’ll drain Lafayette.  Jesus starts chanting and his demon comes out.  Marnie stabs Jesus and licks the blood on the knife, turning Lafayette’s face into a demon.  Jesus apologizes to Lafayette.

Arlene’s kids are eating at Merlotte’s and Sam introduces them to Emma.  They are discussing the kids costumes as Lisa is dressed as one of the pregnant girls from Teen Mom.  Arlene asks Emma what she is and she tells her that she is either going to be a shape shifter like her mom or a werewolf like her dad who is dead.  Arlene excuses herself and walks away.

One of Terry’s military friends shows up at Merlotte’s.  Terry thought he was dead.  Terry introduces him to Arlene and then him and Patrick go to have a drink.

Alcide is at Merlotte’s and Sookie asks if this means he forgives her and he says he does.  She asks where Debbie is and his look says it all.  He tells her that she was right about her and that she is out of his life for good.  Sookie tells him that Debbie has changed, but Alcide tells her that people don’t change that they just find new ways to lie and he wishes she’d learn that to.  He reminds her about when she said if she was smart she’d fall for a guy like him.  Sookie tells him not to go there.  He continues anyway asking her what if their hearts can’t be trusted and if they will just keep making the same stupid mistakes.  She tells him that she can’t help who she loves even though she’s tried to change it.  He gets a phone call and has to leave, but asks her to think about what he said.

Tara goes to Lafayette’s house looking for Lafayette and Jesus.  The door is slightly ajar and she sees Lafayette in the chair dead and screams.

Sookie is lighting the jack-o-lanterns outside of Merlotte’s and Holly shows up dressed up as a fairy and scares Sookie.  Holly tells her that there is nothing scary about fairies, Sookie isn’t convinced.  Holly asks to borrow the lighter and lights a joint.  She tells Sookie that she has had an uneasy feeling all day and Sookie tells her that she has also.  Then, Tara pulls up and runs out of her car telling them that Marnie is back and she killed Jesus and she thinks Marnie is inside Lafayette.

Tara, Holly, and Sookie pile into Sookie’s car and take off.  Sookie can’t get a hold of Bill or Eric.  Tara tells her that they can’t let them hurt Lafayette once they find out Marnie is inside him.  Sookie tells her that she has a feeling they already know.

Marnie has silvered Eric and Bill on top of a woodpile.  Eric asks if Bill has any ideas how to get out of this one.  He tells him that he could summon Pam and Eric says that he could summon Jessica to which Bill refuses.  Eric notes that Bill is willing to sacrifice is progeny, but not his own and how unkingly that is.  Bill says that he prefers when Eric was brain damaged.  They both sense Sookie at the same time and look over to see Sookie, Holly, and Tara arrive.  They are talking to Marnie as Holly sneaks around pouring a salt circle.  Marnie tells them what comes around goes around and sets a fire around Eric and Bill.  The girls form a circle and start chanting asking for the spirits to come and protect them.  Marnie tries to walk over to them, but can’t get past Holly’s circle.  Then, the spirits come forth calling Marnie’s name.  Antonia steps forward and Marnie is happy that she came back to her.  Antonia blows out the fire that’s burning Eric and Bill, angering Marnie.  Antonia tells her that each creature has a reason for existing; even the vampires and tells them that the vampires brought them together.  Antonia tries to get Marnie to come with them, but she refuses.  Then, Sookie’s gran refuses to take no for an answer and pulls Marnie out of Lafayette.  Marnie reluctantly goes with the spirits.  Sookie calls to her gran and asks her to stay.  She tells her she can’t and that there is nothing to fear in being alone as everyone will be alone in the end.  After the spirits leave, they are all huddled around Lafayette who is unconscious.  Eric calls to them telling them they are feeling a bit crispy.

Arlene goes to throw out the garbage at Merlotte’s complaining that she has to do everything because nobody else ever works there.  Then, she sees Rene.  He tells her that he won’t hurt her because he loves her and their baby.  He warns her that he’s met Terry’s ghosts of the past and they aren’t going to rest forever and for her to run.  Rene disappears and Terry comes out to check on Arlene telling her that everything is going to be OK.

A caped female is running through the woods.  Jason opens the door to her and discovers it’s Jessica.  She sees his face beat up and asks what happened.  He asks her if this is another dream and says if Hoyt jumps out of that cape he’s going to kick his ass.  She makes the conclusion that Jason told Hoyt.  She asks if he hurt Hoyt and Jason tells her that he didn’t touch him.  She tells him to invite her in.  They have sex on the couch and she blurts out that she doesn’t want to be his girlfriend saying that she doesn’t want to hurt him the way she hurt Hoyt.

Pam yells at Ginger wanting to know where Eric is.  Ginger tells her that Sookie called earlier looking for him.  Pam goes off on a tangent about Sookie and her stupid name.  She tells Ginger that she has been with Eric for over a 100 years and has seen him seduce supermodels and spit on their bones when he’s done.  She asks Ginger how someone with such a stupid name could take Eric from her.  Pam sits down on the ground and starts crying and Ginger tries to comfort her.

They have Lafayette in one of the beds at Sookie’s and Tara is talking to him.  He’s upset that he killed Jesus, but Tara assures him that it wasn’t him and that they will get through this together.

Sookie feeds both Bill and Eric at the same time.  They thank her for saving their lives and she tells them that it was her turn.  Bill tells her that if being with Eric makes her happy that she has his blessing, which makes Eric happy.  Eric tells her that Bill has lied to her and she tells him that she has also lied to Bill and that Eric has lied to both of them countless times.  She tells Bill that she forgives him and he tells her that he is the love of her life and she tells him she knows.  She then tells Eric that it wasn’t just the goofy Eric she fell in love with, but a part of her has always loved him.  She tells them both that the only way she can end this is to walk away without either of them.  They both object, but she tells them not to try to stop her.  She steps outside and starts crying.

Jesus comes to Lafayette and tells him that he’s cool with how things ended.  He tells him that everything is temporary.  Lafayette asks him how he’s supposed to live knowing that he killed him.  Jesus tells him to just keep breathing that it’s that simple.  They kiss.  Lafayette doesn’t want Jesus to go.  Jesus tells him that he’s dead and that Lafayette is a medium and he will always be with him.

Holly is getting ready to leave Merlotte’s when Andy shows up with flowers.  He tells her that he’s sorry for taking them with him last time.  She tells him that it’s OK that he was nervous he tells her that it was because he was a drug addict.  She tells him this is all too much and he says he understands, but that he wants her to know that he can be really good to someone if they let him.  She asks him for a hug and he obliges.

Sam is kissing Luna outside his place and tries to convince her to stay the night.  She tells him it’s tempting, but she doesn’t think Emma is ready for that yet.  She takes Emma home.  As she’s leaving Sam hears something and turns around to find a werewolf growling at him.

Alcide is talking to an employee  and the employee tells him that it feels like his mind has been erased.  Alcide discovers that he’s been glamored.  The employee asks why a vampire would want to glamor him and why they would want to dig a hole in a parking garage.  Alcide picks up a silver chain from the newly dug hole.

Nan shows up at Bill’s with some “gay storm troopers” as Eric calls them.  She is angry and tells them that she quit/was fired from the AVL and the authority.  Her last job was supposed to be to issue the final death to both Bill and Eric.  She is forming a mutiny and wants them to join her.  She brings up Sookie angering both Bill and Eric.  Eric kills the “storm troopers” and Bill kills Nan.

Sookie comes home and calls for Tara to see if she’s still up.  Then, she hears the click of a shotgun and sees Debbie with a riffle pointed at her.  Tara comes in and sees what’s happening and jumps in front of the bullet.  Then, Sookie grabs the gun and kills Debbie.  She then holds Tara in her arms crying for someone to help them.

Overall Thoughts:

I was expecting a little more out of this episode with it being the finale and all.  I really liked last week’s episode better.  I again think my problem lies with the whole spirit storyline it has just been way overdone this season.  Marnie going into Lafayette was so been there done that.  I’m not sure what I think about Jesus being killed off…although I’m sure he will still be around with Lafayette being a medium and all.  I don’t like Tara getting shot at all.  And the hole in the parking garage…could this be a teaser for Russell’s return?  At least with him as the villain you know next season will be interesting!!  And I found Sookie breaking things off with Bill and Eric to be predictable and boring.

I'm not thrilled with the way they had Sookie choose to have neither Bill nor Eric, but I like how it opens the door for Alcide (even though I'm totally Team Eric).

I was glad to see some semblance of canon when Sookie shot Debbie Pelt.   smileywave

I wasn't expecting Tara to get killed off and I feel so bad for Lafayette - losing both Jesus and Tara.  I wonder if we'll be seeing spooky ghost Tara since Lafayette is a medium?

WTF with Steve Newlin showing up on Jason's doorstep!?   Hopefully, his appearance will usher in the return of Russell and we'll have a more vamp-centric storyline in Season 5.

I am so thankful that they sent Marnie to the other side and I hope that's the last we'll see of her.  Ugh!

I really feel like Season 4 jumped the shark and I hope that they can bring things back around for Season 5.

I was glad to see Tara go. (Unless they were gonna have her marry who she did in the books! :) I would have been okay with that.

I loved all the things they left us to wonder about over the next nine months:
Sam turning around seeing that wolf.
Sookie breaking up with both men, after Alcide tells her to keep him in mind.
Russel not being in his grave.
The AVL wanting Eric and Bill.
Andy had that meet with the fairy in the woods.
Sookie killing Debbie.
Debbie Killing Tara.
Rene telling Arlene that Terry's got drama coming....

There was so much more! I am thinking next season is going to be really good.

I have been wondering though, since they didn't turn Jason into a panther, are they going to turn him into a Vamp? All I know is, he has sure been taking a beating lately.

I don't think they are going to bring Quinn into the show so I definitely thinking something is going to go down between Sookie and Alcide.

I did NOT like how Pam was angry at Sookie. I have been hoping that they would get close, but I don't see that happening.

And my FAVORITE part was seeing gran!

This season has been a major disappointment to me...but then again that book was one of my favs and they strayed soooo far away from the book this season.  I really do hope that next season is better.

I liked seeing Rene, but not Steve Newlin..and as a vamp that was just weird.

I can't help but wonder who dug up Russell...do you think it was Pam?  She'd do anything to get rid of Sookie at this point.

I'm not calling Tara out yet...there is still plenty of time for Eric or Bill to ride to the rescue and save her.  They would do anything to gain favor with Sookie and her "fairy vagina" as Pam called it...lol.

The "fairy vagina" made me laugh so hard. One of the best Pam one liners so far.

I just read that HBO interview on the four people that died last night and Tara is the only one that couldn't admit if she was dead or not. She said she didn't have a clue. NO matter what I think she will be visiting Lafayette.

I hope Russel is a major part in the next season. The one thing I love about the books, (aside from the Debbie Pelt storyline), is that the drama only sticks around for so long.

The fairy vagina and fucking Sookie made me laugh my ass off. I really don't like how they make Pam and Sookie at odds - I hoped to see their friendship develop.

I am, for the most part, disappointed with this season. I don't like how they made Marnia a villain for the whole season, the same way they did MaryAnn. It's too predictable and I'd rather them not keep coming back or making it so no one can kill them.

Russell is out, which will be interesting. I hope Tara is not dead, it was bad enough losing Jesus - the only person LaFayette has been happy with.

Sookie killing Debbie, about damn time.
Sookie dumping both Bill and Eric was lame.
Steve Newlin WTF!!!! Now he will be a villain who can't be killed.

I don't know if the writing was bad for this season or what, but they need to get it together for next season.

That "Gay stormtroopers"....was a fav line by Eric.

Agreed. I guess they want no one to be happy so the next season can be all dramatic. I was really looking forward to seeinghow she would be as his "girlfriend". That could have opened up a lot of storylines.

OMG Tara's head. I jumped up when that happened. Poor Lafayette. I really liked Jesus's character.

This season went by faster than any other past. I wonder if they cut episodes...

That was awesome!!

I don't really think Sookie dumped Eric and Bill for Alcide though but they are definitely leaving it up for someone to step into Sooki's bed.

I hope next season is better...I'm optimistic with Russell coming back.

Oh and is it just me or was there a lot less sex this season??  They were too busy showing stupid witches and spirits and not showing enough naked Eric and Alcide....

In the books once she gets with Eric it just gets deeper and deeper. I really hope to see that on the show. But If I have to see her in bed with Alcide, that won't bug me any :)!

No its not just you, they did lack on the sex. I'm glad they didn't show Andy and the fairy getting it on, I am glad they saved us from that!
