Vampire Diaries: Chapter 4 Written by Katie Edited by Rose / Krystal
By the time Elena reached her locker she was almost in tears, but she couldn't let anyone at school see her cry. As soon as the last bell rang, Elena raced to get home, but when she got there the house was empty. She had assumed that in the comfort of her own home the tears would come easily, but they refused to flow. As she looked around the living room, she started thinking of the past, her parents, Matt and even Stefan. Finally, the tears flowed from her eyes at the humiliation and frustration surrounding Stefan.
Elena didn't understand why she was letting a complete stranger get to her like this. She never understood how she made boys nervous, but when she talked to Stefan her pulse raced and her knees became weak. As Elena pondered all things Stefan, Aunt Judith came through the front door calling her name waking her from her reverie. As she looked around, she realized she wasn’t ready to face anyone just yet, so she slipped out the back door not knowing where she was going. As she exited the back porch the answer of where to go came to her suddenly; she’d go visit her parents at the cemetery. It was a long walk, but one she had grown accustomed to the last three years since their death.
Elena reached the cemetery and sat down next to the marble headstone that said Gilbert. She spoke softly to her parents and reminisced about her parents. A shadow fell over her and when she looked up she found herself being watched by Bonnie and Meredith. They three sat in silence for a few minutes until Bonnie brought up what happened this afternoon. Elena pretends she doesn’t want Stefan anymore and changing the subject asks about the report Mr. Tanner assigned. Bonnie says she’s going to do her report on the druids, the ones she’s descended from in England. This reminds Elena of the palm reading and she questions Bonnie’s vision. Bonnie says that in Scotland the druids believe that you can even find out who you’re going to marry and the girls make fun of her. Somewhere in the middle of all the laughing Elena knew she’d be alright, she was herself again. Announcing her plans to do a report on the Italian Renaissance caused even more laughter among them. Elena was going to have Stefan Salvatore no matter what, but no one could know that. The three sat planning and made a blood oath that it will remain a secret.
As the wind gusted through their hair, the girls realized just how late it had gotten. When they reached the older part of the cemetery, the thought of going the long way crept into their brains as they looked at the dark and scary pathway before them. Speediness won over though and the girl’s trudged forward. Passing a tombstone, Elena stopped unable to take her eyes away. Bonnie, on the other hand, was staring straight ahead, lips parted and a blank stare on her pretty face. A voice, not of her own, came from Bonnie’s lips that warned Elena of someone waiting for her. Something deep in the shadows moved and the girls started screaming and running down the narrow path toward the bridge. Once across the bridge, Meredith looked back and saw nothing and began to wonder if it was all in their heads.

Memorable Quotes
Elena: “You weren’t there. It was terrible. But I don’t care anymore. I’m finished with him, I don’t want him anyways.” Bonnie: “Elena!” Elena: “He obviously thinks he’s too good for - for Americans. So he can just take those designer sunglasses and...” (Page 52)
Bonnie: “She did. I'm going to be young and beautiful in my coffin. Don't you think that's romantic?” (Page 53)
Elena: “What about Tyler Smallwood? His father’s certainly rich enough.” Meredith: “And he’s not bad-looking. That is, of course, if you’re an animal lover. All those big white teeth. (Page 54)

Why do you think Elena is doing her report on the Italian Renaissance?
What do you think Bonnie meant when she said blood oaths are dangerous?
Do you think something was following the girls or it was all in their heads? If, so what?
