Vampire Diaries: Chapter 8 Written by Amanda Edited by Rose / Krystal
While Elena washes up in Stefan’s bathroom a transformation takes place and she emerges angry, remembering that her purse is in Tyler’s car and recalling Stefan’s cold and composed behavior. Exiting the bathroom, Elena found Stefan standing by the window offering her a cloak to wear; her dress leaving little to the imagination. Elena examines his room in further detailing, picking things up to purposely get a rise out of Stefan. Stefan cares little until she tries to open an iron coffer, slapping it shut saying “its private.” Elena noticed he was careful not to touch her and angrily makes a spiteful remark. Moving away she leans her head back to look at the trapdoor in the ceiling, and Stefan takes an audible breath as he sees her exposed neck.
Stefan suggests that its time to take her home and Elena confronts him, asking why he hates her so much. All Stefan can say is that he doesn’t hate her, but that’s not enough for Elena; calling him out on his behavior over the past few weeks. When she is finally finished, Stefan agrees that she has a right to know why he’s acted so rudely and admits that she reminds him of someone; someone very close to him. When Elena asks for more, Stefan says that the girl looked like Elena, but she was fragile and vulnerable; unlike Elena, who’s a fighter. Sadly, the woman had died and Elena apologizes and her anger vanishes as she’s reminded of her own family tragedy. Trying to comfort him, Elena places a hand on his arm and says she knows how it feels to lose someone. Angry he explodes and flings her hand from his arm, but when he tries to put his hand up to stop her from touching him again, he finds his fingers interlocked with hers. Stefan looked at their hands and then at Elena’s face and that’s when she saw it; all the walls around him had crumbled and he leaned in toward Elena’s lips.
Meanwhile, Bonnie, Meredith and Matt come across Vickie Bennett, who wanders in front of Matt’s car. Matt slams on the brakes and tells them to get Vickie in the car, but Meredith is already on it. Meredith tries to ask Vickie what happened, but she seems dazed until she suddenly seems to see Meredith. Clutching Meredith’s arm, he tells them all to leave because “it’s coming.” They see she’s been hurt and ask her where the others are and if Elena was with them, but she doesn’t know; she can only say that Dick and she were in the church and something about mist and seeing eyes in the darkness. They assume Vickie is delirious and notice the scratches on Vickie’s neck, noting they look like animal marks – like a cat. They want to go after Elena, but decide Vickie needs medical treatment now and drive toward town.
As soon as Elena feels Stefan’s lips meet hers, all questions and doubts are removed from her mind. Suddenly, she finally felt at home and knew this is where she belonged. Stefan tries to protests that they shouldn’t, but Elena stops him and pulls him back to her lips. While kissing Elena felt like she could feel everything Stefan felt and she knew he loved her. He pulled away slowly and they stood gazing into each other’s eyes; she realized then, it had not been hatred that caused Stefan to avoid her.
After some time, Stefan finally takes Elena home where the flashing police lights greet them. As they rush inside, everyone’s face turned toward them and Aunt Judith approaches with a cry and a hug. Confused at all the police, Elena informs everyone she has been with Stefan t the boarding house and asks what happened. Matt informs her that Vickie was attacked in the graveyard and that she had scratches on her body. When Meredith fills in some gaps, Stefan asks if there were any other marks on her, but there wasn’t expect for a bitten tongue. They describe Vickie’s hysterical behavior and point out that whatever it was didn’t attack Dick, who was passed out in the church. Stefan makes sure that the attack happened near midnight and then falls silent, but after a moment asks if Vickie will live. Matt says the doctor didn’t even mention death and that there’s really nothing wrong with her. Stefan nods and then says he has to go, but Elena won’t let him go without telling him to call her tomorrow. After Stefan leaves, Aunt Judith asks Elena what happened to her and she replies that Stefan saved her, it was Tyler.

Memorable Quotes
Elena: “Careful,” she said savagely. “Don’t touch me, or you might get a disease.” (Page 117)
Elena: And she knew, suddenly, what she must look like to him, pale hair spilling over the blackness of the cape, one white hand holding the velvet closed at her throat. A ravaged princess pacing in her tower. (Page 117)
Elena: “Why do you hate me?” (Page 118)
Stefan: “I’ve never hated you. But you…remind me of someone.” (Page 120)
Elena: And then, helplessly, he bent his head down to her lips. (Page 122)
Vickie: “We were in the church… it was horrible. It came… like mist all around. Dark mist. And eyes. I saw its eyes in the dark there, burning. They burnt me…” (Page 123)
Elena: And… it was as simple as that. All questions answered, all fears put to rest, all doubts removed. What she felt was not merely passion, but a bruising tenderness and a love so strong it made her shake inside. (Page 124)
Elena: This was where she belonged, and she had found it at last. With Stefan, she was home. (Page 125)
Bonnie: “It didn’t attack Dick, which at least shows it had some taste.” (Page 129)
