Vampire Diaries: Chapter 10 Written by Rose Edited by Krystal
The bell rang and Elena knew she would have to wait to tell Bonnie and Meredith what she had seen in the photography room, so she headed off toward history class. All though class, Elena tried not to stare at Caroline, letting her know that she knew everything. When Alaric questions Stefan and Matt’s absence Elena simply shrugs, she didn’t trust the boyish smile and hazel eyes and Bonnie was no help as she stared at Alaric soulfully. As class ended, Elena caught the end of Sue’s conversation about Damon and interjected a warning. Elena then grabbed Bonnie from Alaric’s pile of groupies and headed toward Meredith’s locker.
Now at Elena’s house, Bonnie spoke aloud at her disbelief of Caroline’s actions. It was Tyler though who was causing all the trouble and thanks to him the girls had until Founder’s Day to figure something out. When Meredith asks why Founder’s Day, Elena explains that deal between his ancestors and the Fell’s, recalling the night at the cemetery. Deciding that the diary must be in Caroline’s house, Meredith and Elena agreed they need to steal it back, but Bonnie isn’t so sure about the plan. Meredith reminds Bonnie of the blood oath they took and Bonnie is stunned. Elena begins to swear that she will never ask Bonnie for anything again, but Meredith warns her not to. Elena laughs and the girls continue their discussion of how to get Caroline’s house key.
It had been some time since Elena wrote in her diary and she was sorry for it, but also afraid after what happened to her last diary. She needed someone she could talk to though; she was keeping some kind of secret from everyone in her life now. Bonnie and Meredith couldn’t know the truth about Stefan, Stefan can’t know the truth about Damon and Aunt Judith can’t know about anything really. Meanwhile, Stefan didn’t know about Caroline and the diary, but the girls did. Furthermore, Stefan knew about the vervain that she used daily and it seemed to work because she hadn’t been sleepwalking. Of course, that didn’t mean she didn’t dream about Damon; he had been in all her nightmares that she couldn’t shake. With all the lies going on Elena needed someone to tell the truth to and her diary was that person. She would hide it under the floorboards in the closet to be sure of its secrecy, even if she dropped dead. Speaking of dead, Elena was surprised at all her talk of death that was normally Bonnie’s thing. Elena wanted to live happily with Stefan for a long time, but some days she worried that it wouldn’t happen. There were also little things that shouldn’t matter to her like Stefan wearing Katherine’s ring and the fact he still hadn’t said he loved her. As she writes over and over that it would work out, she shuts the book before a teardrop could betray her and hides the book under the floorboard.
A week later and Elena still had the nail file in her pocket as the girls stood outside Caroline’s back door. Everyone was gone from the house, away for a birthday dinner at Chez Louis. Once inside Caroline’s bedroom the girls began to search for the diary, splitting the room into sections. The first thing Elena did was pry at the floorboards of Caroline’s closet, but none were loose. Meredith, in the meantime, was rummaging through a pile of stuffed animals remembering when they were children. After some time, just as the girls were about to give up, Meredith found a diary in one of the stuffed animals. Hopeful, Elena started to relax, but it was Caroline’s diary not Elena’s. Bonnie took the diary and opened it. As she skimmed the book Elena’s name popped out and she began to read it. Caroline wrote about how selfish Elena was, how Bonnie pretends to be a psychic so people will like her, and something about Meredith’s family. The girls discuss the option of blackmailing Caroline with her own diary, but Bonnie notes there is nothing bad about Caroline in the diary; in fact she’d probably love he complaints read aloud. As Bonnie continues to thumb through the diary, Meredith notices a car approaching. Elena snatches the diary and sent Bonnie and Meredith outside while she hid Caroline’s book. As she rushed downstairs, Elena heard the keys in the front door and ran back the way she came, getting trapped in the master bedroom. Looking around, Elena noticed the French windows that lead to a balcony and headed out. She only had a few minutes before Caroline’s parents entered the bedroom and it was too far to jump to the ground. Standing on the balcony railing, Elena reached for something to grab onto, but there was nothing. A dark figure was approaching the window from inside and Elena began to panic. All of a sudden a hand grasped hers and hoisted her up to the shingled roof and she turned to see her rescuer and froze.

Memorable Quotes
Elena: “It’s Tyler,” Elena said. “He’s the one with the big plans. So much for men not being interested in diaries.” (Page 391)
Meredith: “Think again,” said Meredith. “You swore you would do whatever Elena asked in relation to Stefan. There wasn’t anything about a time limit or about ‘only until Elena gets him.’” (Page 394)
Bonne: Bonnie shut her mouth and thrust her chin out. “Right,” she said grimly. “Now I’m stuck for the rest of my life doing whatever Elena wants me to do about Stefan. Wonderful.” Elena: “This is the last thing I’ll ever ask,” Elena said. “And I promise that. I swear --“ Meredith: “Don’t!” said Meredith, suddenly serious. “Don’t, Elena. You might be sorry later.” (Page 394)
Questions for consideration:
How do you feel about blood oaths now that you see the consequences of such promises?
What do you think Caroline meant when she wrote about Meredith’s parents?
Who do you think saved Elena? Why do you think that person is there?

Vampire Diaries: Chapter 11 Written by Rose Edited by Krystal
The savior introduced himself as Salvatore, meaning savior. Elena looked down toward the balcony below, but there was no sound of pursuit and a moment later the French windows closed. Sarcastically, Damon asks if Elena is going to scream, or faint. Elena says that she would neither faint nor scream at him. This intrigues Damon and almost talking to himself he says that he wants her as his Queen of Shadows. He had had many women, but she was the one he wanted by his side for eternity. Elena wittingly replies that they are enemies and could never be anything else, but Damon won’t take her answer and tries to use his power on her. As understanding crosses his face, Damon asks what Elena was doing in Caroline’s house. Strangely, Elena felt no need to lie to Damon and told him the truth of her diary. Damon assumes that it has something to do with Stefan and suggests that if he were out of the picture… Elena stops him mid sentence and threatens him straight forwardly. Damon accepts her threat and says that no matter what she will be his before the snow falls.
Elena ‘s reaction was slight, but enough for Damon to see she was chilled by what he said; he was dangerous and she knew that much. His real purpose now though was a business proposition; he would find the diary for Elena, but only if she shared her blood with him. Sickened by the thought, Elena tries to find the right words to express her hatred. There was something about being around Damon that made her instincts take over and rather than succumb to Damon she threw herself off the roof. She was right about catching him off guard, but he was still fast and grabbed her before she fell much further. Annoyed, Elena told Damon to let her go, but when she saw he would if she requested it, she replied with a witty remark and he pulled her to safety. In one motion she was in his arms and they were falling toward the ground. Clinging to him as the only solid thing to hold onto, Elena felt helpless as they landed silently on the ground. Holding her close, Damon’s lips were nearly touching her as he asked her to reconsider his proposition. She could not move or look away and realized there was no power involved, it was simply a wild attraction between the two that she couldn’t deny. Looking up into Damon’s eyes, Elena proclaimed she wanted nothing from him and then the French windows opened above them. A voice called out and Damon whispers softly that this time was a favor, but the next time he would collect and turns into a crow and flies away. As Damon flies away, Mr. Forbes’ voice yells about a possible nest on the roof.
Elena waited for Mr. Forbes to go back inside and then she found Meredith and Bonnie crouching by the nearby gate. The girls asked what happened and Elena lied; she was so used to it by now. They decide to call it a night and head home with a reminder that Founder’s Day was only two weeks away. For a moment Damon’s proposition swam in Elena’s head but she shook it off and went inside.
The next day Elena still hadn’t thought of anything, but Caroline hadn’t seem to notice anything out of place either. At assembly the school board announced Elena as the student to represent “The Spirit of Fell’s Church” and Caroline was beaming the whole time. That afternoon while waiting for history class to be let out, she examined Tyler Smallwood. Tyler nudges Dick with his elbow and they make some mean remarks, but before Dick can continue, he spots Vickie down the hallway. As Vickie walked near them, Dick said hi and walked in her path, but she just passed without a glance in his direction and walked up to Tyler. Vickie began touching Tyler’s chest and slid her hands under his jacket before pushing it off his shoulders. Tyler looked at Dick tentatively and he tried to tell her to stop, but she just continued. Slowly a sound began to come from Vickie, it was low at first, but grew into a kind of menacing growl. Suddenly, as if all at once, Tyler was on the ground and Vickie teeth were inches from his throat. The classroom door was open and Alaric was screaming through it as Dick and Elena tried to pull her off Tyler. Vickie was more powerful than all of them and to Elena’s relief Stefan appeared and started to calm Vickie down. Suddenly, whatever power he was using stopped working and Vickie’s eyes were lazing with red fury. It took five or six of them to hold Vickie down while someone called the police and when Elena turned around Bonnie and Caroline were standing gaping.
As Elena and Stefan walk home in silence, Elena glances toward Stefan, but it wasn’t until they reached Stefan’s room that they discussed Vickie. It was obvious to Stefan that Damon was still drinking from Vickie and Elena reprimands herself for not giving her any vervain. Stefan tells her that it would do any good, she was Damon’s now and there was nothing they could do. Luckily, Vickie’s change wasn’t complete unless Damon fed her his own blood, otherwise she would just end up like Mr. Tanner. Elena finally got to another question she’d been meaning to ask about his powers; he’d seemed weak lately and his powers hadn’t been working. Stefan blows it off as taking time to recover, but Elena wants to know what she can do to help. Hiding his face, Stefan tells her there’s nothing. Understanding hits Elena and she pleads with him to drink from her, but he refuses. Elena concedes, but a wave of grief and fear washes over her. She was worried about Stefan, partly because of the ordinary citizens of Fell’s Church and partly because of herself.

Damon: “The name is Salvatore. As in savior.” (Page 406)
Damon: “I may just have to make you my Queen of Shadows,” he said, and, speaking almost to himself, he continued: “I’ve had many companions, girls as young as you and women who were the beauties of Europe. But you’re the one I want at my side. Ruling, taking what we want when we want it. Feared and worshipped by all the weaker souls. Would that be so bad?” Elena: “I am one of the weaker souls,” Elena said. “And you and I are enemies, Damon. We can never be anything else.” (Page 408)
Damon: “This time I did you a favor,” Damon said, very softly, still holding her. “Next time I’m going to collect.” (Page 413)
Stefan: “Elena, no. Don’t you see? It’s dangerous, dangerous for both of us, but especially for you. It could kill you, or worse.” (Page 420)
Questions for consideration:
Were you surprised that it was Damon who came to her rescue at the Forbes house?
Why do you think Vickie ignored Dick and went for Tyler? What do you think is going to happen to her?
Why do you think it’s taking Stefan so long to recover and gain is powers back? Why won’t he let Elena help and just be extremely cautious?

Vampire Diaries: Chapter 12 Written by Rose Edited by Krystal
Aunt Judith always made a mock Thanksgiving dinner the Sunday beforehand and Elena was out getting last minute supplies. As she reached for the cranberry sauce a familiar voice called to her, it was Matt. After going through the checkout Elena looked back at Matt, who was staring at a magazine. Something about the way he stood gave him away and she asked what his plans were for dinner. Matt admits that he has no plans and Elena invites him over, being specific that Stefan would not be attending. He agrees and they head toward the car.
At the house, Aunt Judith greets Matt and suggests that Elena get another chair since Matt made seven. Elena corrects Judith, but then she reveals that Robert had brought a friend. Something inside Elena knew what waited her and as she stepped into the dining room she was not shocked to find Damon. Robert introduces Damon and mentions that he invited him as a guest after running into him at the drugstore. Bonnie had walked in now and looked ready to panic at the sight of Damon. While Elena tried to come up with an excuse, Margaret invited Matt to look at her new kitten and an idea popped into Elena’s head. Elena marched over, grabbed the cat and thrust it into Damon’s face. Immediately Snowball started snarling and clawing before jumping away and running out of the room. Everyone looked appalled, but Elena sarcastically says he must not have a way with animals and takes a seat at the table. As they all sat down to eat, Elena considered how normal the group looked together and started to eat.
During dinner everyone was charmed with Damon’s chatter about William and Mary so it was no surprise when Aunt Judith invited him to join them for Founder’s Day. As Judith continues to talk to Damon, Elena butts in and mentions Vickie’s condition, staring at Damon the whole time. Offering Damon some stuffing, Elena throws the bowl toward him only to be refused. Instead he toys with her as he picks up the cranberry sauce and held it up to a candle, remarking on its tantalizing color. As everyone looked a look came across Bonnie’s face that she had seen before, but when Judith asked a question Elena turned to answer it. It was then that a voice rang out saying “death”. Again the voice spoke, “Death, death is in this house”. It was coming from Bonnie, who continued to stare at the candle, but then suddenly she choked and Robert got up to help her. That was the end of dinner and Robert insisted on taking Bonnie home. As everyone was reoccupied, Elena whispered threats toward Damon and he graciously leave, but not without warning.
Aunt Judith was on the phone with Mrs. McCullough as Elena paced, trying to figure out what to do. She would have to call Stefan; there was nothing else to it. Damon would be back tonight to collect on his favor, but what exactly could Stefan do to stop him. Standing in the living room staring at the fireplace something hits Elena, the living room was part of the original house that almost burnt down in the Civil War and her bedroom was right above it. Chasing after Aunt Judith, Elena asks if Robert invited Damon into the living room to which she replies no. Elena hugged her aunt tightly and Judith wonders what has gotten into her. Elena says she is just happy and Judith remarks that she’s glad someone is after that disastrous mess and that Damon was quite taken with her, the type of man she’d like to see around more often. Elena almost burst out laughing at the suggestion before heading upstairs.
That night Elena slept with the door to her bedroom open as she stared at the clock every so often. Time crept by slowly and at about two she heard a sound downstairs. She knew Damon would find a way in somehow and as she looked out at the hallway, she saw a dark silhouette come up the stairs. Damon said nothing; he just stood in front of her, staring at her. Without a word Elena backed up through her bedroom doorway and watched as he eagerly followed. Her heart raced and then he stopped suddenly. Confused, his eyes scanned the ceiling and realization stuck him along with anger. Elena laughed now, she knew it had worked. Elena explains that her room and the living room below were all that was left of her old home, a different dwelling, one that he would never invited into. Furious with rage, Damon steps back, but not to leave, to Margaret’s bedroom door. Elena never expected Damon to hurt a four year old, but there was no compassion in his eyes and Elena left the security of her bedroom, stepped out into the hall, and watched as Damon approached her.

Memorable Quotes
Elena: “So what do you think? Want to take a chance on Aunt Judith’s cooking?” (Page 423)
Elena: “I guess you don’t have a way with animals.” (Page 426)
Elena: “Yes, apparently the doctors can’t understand it. She just keeps getting worse and worse, as if the attack was still going on.” Elena kept her eyes on Damon’s face as she spoke, but he displayed only a courteous interest. “Have some more stuffing,” she finished, propelling a bowl at him. Damon: “No thank you. I’ll have some more of this, though,” He held a spoonful of jellied cranberry sauce up to one of the candles so that light shone through it. “It’s such a tantalizing color.” (Page 429)
Questions for consideration:
What do you think made Bonnie go into a trance? Was it the candle or Damon’s presence or both?
Were you surprised to find that the old house needed a separate invitation than the new house?
Do you think Damon would have hurt Margaret if Elena didn’t give herself to him?
