Vampire Diaries: Chapter 15 Written by Rose Edited by Krystal
Aunt Judith was shocked at Elena’s outburst toward Damon and ever since Elena started hanging out with Stefan her behavior had been secretive and defiant. This was Judith’s last straw and she made it clear that it was all Stefan’s fault. As Elena yells at Damon and Judith alike, she says she’ll never give up Stefan for Damon, but Robert burst in the conversation with anger already on his lips. Every emotion that Elena had been bundling up for weeks flowed into her body now. In a fit of rage she announces her engagement to Stefan and shows them Katherine’s ring. Everyone around her was furious including Damon, who grabbed her hand, stared at the ring, and strode away savagely. Judith tries to forbid Elena from any such engagement, but a deeply distraught Elena yells that she’s not her mother and heads off, informing everyone that she will be at the boarding house. She was glad that Bonnie and Meredith hadn’t followed her and as she reached the parking lot, she spotted Matt unlocking his car. Elena approached Matt to find out if she could borrow his car, but gave him little choice as she snatched his keys and drove away.
Elena made her way to the boarding house and by the time she arrived, she her emotions had soothed. How had her day ended up like this? She should have been celebrating Caroline and Tyler’s failure and started to giggle as she hoped someone caught it all on tape. Getting out of the car, she found the boarding house locked as a windstorm began to brew around her. As she stood in the rising wind, Elena felt something else in the air, something menacing, gathering power and coming closer to her. She scrambled to get back to the car as the presence came closer and the wind whipped her hair around violently. Making it into Matt’s car safely, Elena screamed for Damon to stop, but nothing happened. A shape of a great bird began to approach in the rearview mirror and Elena’s conscious told her to start the car. As the car wheezed to a start, Elena knew she had to get to town, to Stefan. Making her way wasn’t as easy as she thought it would be as a lightning struck a tree, making it fall in her path. She was trapped and there was no escape from Damon’s power… Power. Stefan’s words about running water came back to her in a rush and she threw the car in reverse heading for Wickery Bridge. As she reached the bridge, the storm threw sleet of across the windshield and she took the turn toward the bridge, but the tires skidded on the wet planks and she crashed through the guardrail. Next thing she knew, the car hit the water and the windows broke from the bridge debris. Water gushed into the car and trapped Elena as she tried to scream, but only found water filling her lungs.
Meanwhile back at school, Bonnie and Meredith were on the hunt for Stefan who had walked off with Tyler’s gang. Meredith noticed the storm coming and they ran for shelter in the nearby Quonset hut, where they find Stefan surrounded by a semicircle of Tyler’s goon squad. In the corner stood Caroline, yelling at Stefan with accusations that he took Elena’s diary. Meredith makes her presence know as she asks what exactly Stefan took, but Tyler tells the girls to mind their own business. Ignoring Tyler, Meredith asks Stefan if she could speak with him, but Stefan simply wants an answer from Tyler. Bonnie opened her mouth to say something, but all that spilled out was a warning about what was happening to Elena. Stefan and Meredith hesitated for only a minute before they ran through the goon squad, the storm and into Meredith’s car.
All the way to the bridge Bonnie sobbed in the car as Meredith drove as fast as she could. When they reached the downed tree, they all got out of the car and began to walk through the punishing wind. Stefan helped the girls make their way to the bridge where they witnessed what was left of Wickery Bridge and Matt’s car submerged in water. Before Meredith could say anything, Stefan dove into the water and never looked back. Finally after some time, Stefan emerged with Elena’s limp and waxen body in his arms. Everyone was crying as they tried to do something for Elena, but nothing would breathe life into her cold lips.
As Bonnie watched the unfolding drama between Stefan and Meredith, a sudden surge of terror washed over her. Something bad, terrible was coming and Stefan felt it too. Stefan told the girls to leave right away, but Meredith was adamant about staying as well. Bonnie, on the other hand, could feel what was coming and dragged Meredith away as Stefan explained he would leave Elena under the willow trees. As Bonnie leaves, she understands why Stefan told her about Elena’s resting place; he would not be around to tell her later.

Memorable Quotes
Elena: “He’s not ‘that boy,’” she said again, her voice deadly cold. “He’s Stefan and he’s all I care about. And I happen to be engaged to him.” (Page 472)
Meredith: Meredith ignored him. “Stefan, can I talk to you?” Stefan: “In a minute. Are you going to answer her questions? Took what?” Stefan was concentrating on Tyler, totally focused. (Page 481)
Stefan: “I’ll put her under the trees. The willows, not the oaks,” he called after them. (Page 485)
Questions for consideration:
Do you think it was Damon behind the storm? If so, why do you think he is doing this to Elena? Is he trying to kill her?
Why do you think Stefan choose the willow trees instead of the oaks? Is it because of the power mentioned in previous chapters?
Do you think Stefan is going to be able to save Elena?
Did something or someone in this chapter take you by surprise?
Vampire Diaries: Chapter 16 Written by Rose Edited by Krystal
Long ago on the dark streets of Florence, a starving Stefan made vows to himself about his many powers and how they are used on the human creatures around him. Now Stefan was prepared to break them all.
He lay Elena under the nearby willow tree and kissed her cold forehead; he would come back and join her if he lived. With the burden of Elena’s body now gone, Stefan broke into a predator’s lop and started hunting his prey. Heading back to the school, Stefan found Tyler and his group still lodged in the Quonset hut and attacked. He had vowed never to kill, but now he wanted to and intended to do just that as he grabbed Tyler and sank his fangs into his veins. Before Stefan could finish draining Tyler whole, a poor thug passed by Stefan in the hopes of escape and suffered Stefan’s wrath as well. He needed their power and as he finished the last one, he spotted Caroline in the corner. Pulling Caroline to her feet, Stefan made to drink her dry when she fainted. He dropped her to the ground; he had enough blood already and felt stronger than ever before. Now it was time for Damon.
Stefan left the same way he had come in, but now he was a hunting falcon in search of a vampire. He soared high above the ground in search of a specific clearing and he found it, and Damon. He dove toward the human Damon, who put his arms up in a protective manner. Stefan was no longer the weak little brother and this time he had come for Damon’s blood. Damon mockingly remarks on Stefan’s thanks for saving both Stefan and Elena, but Stefan was in no mood for games. Attacking Damon’s eyes and face, Stefan says that Damon should have killed them both. Continuing to fight harder, Stefan and Damon went after each other, holding back nothing. It was Stefan who came out victorious as he grabbed Damon by the neck and spoke Elena’s name gently.
It was dark and cold and someone was hurt and needed her help, but Elena was tired and confused. She considered lying back down, but as she did the cries range through her mind again; someone was in pain. She sat there silently until she smelled a nearby squirrel that stared at her before making a run up the nearby willow. She realized only after coming up empty handed that she had made a grab for it. What on earth did she want with a squirrel? Still exhausted, Elena tried to lie down again, but the cried continued to disturb her. Suddenly it all came back to her and as the image of the one who loved and understood her resurfaced, Elena made her way to the clearing where they could be together again.

Memorable Quotes
Stefan: Long ago, in the dark side streets of Florence, starving frightened and exhausted, Stefan had made himself a vow. Several vows, in fact, about using the Power he sensed within himself, and about how to treat the weak, blundering, but still-human creatures around him. Now he was going to break them all. (Page 486)
Elena: Elena’s eyelids fluttered and opened and that took care of the darkness. As for the cold… she was bone-cold, freezing, chilled to the marrow. And no wonder; there was ice all over her. (Page 490)
Questions for consideration:
Were you surprised to see Stefan as a ruthless killer? Were you surprised at his decision to use human blood to grow stronger to defeat Damon?
Why do you think that Stefan turned into a falcon when Damon turns into a crow? Do you think there is significance to the falcon?
What do you think happened to Elena that made her so confused and tired? Whose cries do you think are calling her to the clearing?
Was there something or someone in this chapter that took you by surprise?
