“The Reckoning”Brought to you by OBS staff member Annabell CadizRecap/Review: Elena, Bonnie, Carolyn, and Tyler along with many other classmates are sneaking around the school in the middle of the night creating as many pranks as they can in order to celebrate the old age tradition of Senior Prank Night. But soon enough, the fun turns deadly when Claus shows up demanding to know how in the world Elena is still alive and blames her for his inability at being able to create another hybrid like himself. As is the usual with dark and sinister villains, Claus can’t just kill his victims, nope, not this sadistic vampire. Claus is all about games and he has his eyes set on making sure Elena will pay with her life if Bonnie can’t figure out why Claus’s can’t successfully create another hybrid. Right on cue, Bonnie and Mat head into the gym in order to cast huge amounts of toilet paper all over the place when they find Claus and Elena. Claus sister adds herself into the gang of misfits dragging Tyler with her. Claus gives Bonnie the task of making sure his vampire hybrids will survive by forcing Tyler to drink his own blood then breaking his neck.
Bonnie has twenty minutes to help change whatever magic is keeping Claus from being able to create hybrids or Stephen will drink more blood, this time though from Elena herself.
Important Events:•
The Ripper Reborn: Stephen in trying to protect Elena and gain Claus’s trust without giving himself away declares his loyalty to Claus. He promises to do whatever Claus asks of him. Claus tells Stephen to kill the two humans he’s holding hostage but Elena tries to interfere. Claus slaps her hard enough in the face to spin her around and knock her onto the ground. Stephen rejects, giving himself away, trying to protect Elena so Claus compels him. Stephen is to simply obey him without protest or hesitation.
•
Claus’s Archnemisis: There is one person who can kill Claus. His name is Michael and he is also a vampire. He spent most of his existence hunting vampires and killing them. He is older than Claus himself.
•
Matt’s trip to the other side: Vicky is determined to get Matt’s attention claiming she can help him (Matty’s been feeling all depressed lately—can’t be helped when a hord of insane vampires are always showing up and your best friend is a werewolf and your ex-girlfriend is now a vampire). Mat gets the brilliant idea of tying a weight around himself with a chain and jumping into the pool. He calls Bonnie before doing it so she can give him CPR. He figures the only way he’s going to be able to communicate with his sister is to be brought back from the dead the same way Bonnie brought back Jeremy.
•
Stephen becomes pure vampire: Twenty minutes is up and Stephen yells for Elena to run because he doesn’t think he can stop himself from drinking her blood. Elena runs out of the gym while Stephen attempts to fight off his blood lust. He manages to successfully keep himself off of Elena until Claus shows up and compels him to shut off his humanity. Claus decides to test Stephen by having him drink Elena’s blood. Stephen finally does.
•
New Hybrid: Claus gives some of Elena’s blood to Tyler. He’s dying and if he doesn’t drink the blood he won’t survive. Elena’s blood turns out to be the key in breaking the curse and Tyler becomes Claus’s first successful hybrid.
•
Damon’s Rescue: Damon finally shows up! Claus is waiting for the nurse to finish taking blood from Elena. He needs to keep her blood on hand so he can create more hybrids. If he kills her then her blood won’t work. Damon struts up on the scene demanding to see Elena and Claus is pretty close to killing him before he mentions that both he and Katherine know where Michael is. Claus throws him against a car and disappears.
•
Three’s Overcrowding: Claus has left town and has put Stephen in charge of watching over Elena until he returns. Stephen shows up at his house where Damon and Elena are having a heart to heart (Damon declaring he will never leave Elena’s side again).
•
Vampire Hunter: Jeremy and Katherine find the tomb where Michael (vampire hunter extraordinaire) was locked away in by a witch.
Favorite Moment/Scene/Revelation: I like when Damon stops the car while he and Katherine are driving and Damon pretends to be too tired to drive and holds the keys out for Katherine to take but then just throws him into the bushes.
Favorite Line (s): “Stop with the teeny bopper drama.” ~Damon
“Your humanity is killing you. The guilt. It’s exhausting.” ~Claus
