“Smells Like Teen Spirit”Brought to you by OBS staff member Annabell CadizRecap/Review: Alaric is training Elena how to defend herself against vampires now that Stephen has turned off his humanity and is more of a threat. Meanwhile, Stephen is indulging in his vampire nature by feeding on any girl he can get his hands on. Claus’s sister, Rebecca, shows up at Stephen and Damon’s house completely infuriated at the fact that Claus left her behind. She ends up taking room and board at Stephen and Damon’s house for the time being. Matt is still able to see and speak with Vicky. Vicky offers him a surprising proposal: what if there was a way he could help her come back from the dead? Tyler is becoming even more testosterone driven thanks to his new sired gifts and is having trouble in paradise via Carolyn since he keeps switching between acting like a jerk and apologetic boyfriend. Katherine is trying to find a way to wake up Michael but the usual vampire tasty treats of human flesh don’t seem to be working.
Important Events:•
Vicky’s Return to the Living: Vicky tells Matt the way he can help her come back is through a ritual done by a witch. She has a powerful witch willing to help her. What Vicky fails to mention to Matt is that there is a price that must be paid in order for the ritual to work. Anna warns Jeremy that Vicky shouldn’t be trusted, she has darkness all around her and there are severe consequences to upsetting the balance of life and death. The ritual is done through Matty pouring some of his own blood onto a picture of himself and Vicky and saying out loud that he accepts Vicky. The link between the living and the dead is broken; Vicky is able to come through being anchored to Matt. But in order for Vicky to stay in the living world she has to hold up her end of the deal she had made with the witch. The witch needs to restore the balance and in order to do so Vicky must kill Elena because her blood is the reason Claus can create hybrids.
•
Mission: Take Down Stephen: Elena, Damon, Carolyn, and Alaric come up with a plan to lock Stephen up until they can figure out a way to turn on his humanity again. Elena will lure him away from the bonfire, Alaric will shoot him with a nicely sharp stake, and Carolyn will make sure the old jail cell will be ready for their arrival. Damon’s job is to keep Rebecca occupied so she won’t get in the way. Elena pretends to be drunk at the Bonefire in order to get Stephen off guard long enough for Alaric to shoot him in the back twice with stakes.
•
Sired: Tyler refuses to help Elena and the others take down Stephen because it wouldn’t be in Claus’s best interest. Damon realizes Tyler’s been sired; he feels loyalty to Claus because Claus made him and will seek approval from his master.
•
Bonnie Sends Vicky Back to the Other Side: Just as Alaric and Elena get Stephen’s unconscious body thrown into the back of Alaric’s car, Vicky makes an appearance. She had poured gasoline all around Alaric’s car and uses an already lighted bud of weed to ignite the fire. The flames begin to engulf the car but Elena can’t get free, Vicky is keeping the doors locked. Stephen wakes up and manages to save them both just in the nick of time. Bonnie uses Matt’s blood and her ancient book of spells to reverse the ritual and send Vicky back into the afterlife.
•
Michael Wakes Up: Michael doesn’t drink the blood of anything that’s living and Katherine finds that out the hard way when she frees him from his chains and Claus drinks her blood.
•
Jeremy’s Girl Troubles: Jeremy is trying to get Bonnie to talk to him but she is still upset that Jeremy won’t stop talking to his end ex-girlfriends. Jeremy can’t stop thinking about Anna and Anna confesses she can’t stop thinking about him either. They both sit on his bed and Anna holds her hand out. Jeremy places his hand in hers, not really thinking he will be able to feel her but somehow he can. He can take her hand and touch her as if she was alive but doesn’t understand why.
•
An Old Frenemy Returns: Damon is cleaning up the house thanks to Stephen’s Ripper way of living. Things start to break around the house and Damon just assumes its Stephen running around the house acting like an annoying little brother. But surprise surprise, Damon gets knocked into the air by none other than Tyler’s werewolf uncle Mason.
Favorite Moment/Scene/Revelation: There was this scene when Stephen asks Elena why didn’t she let him die in the fire? Elena tells him she still has hope he will find his humanity again. Stephen tells her she sounds pathetic and Elena responds by staking him in the gut.
Favorite Lines: “We have a new house mate, Barbie Claus.” ~Damon (speaking about Claus’s sister)
“I’m the guy who’s been assigned to protect the human blood bag, no offense.” ~Stephen (talking to Elena)
